What: Be the Curator: Art in the Libraries Exhibition Program and Art @ Bio-Med

The Art in the Libraries Exhibit was conceived as part of the spring semester course Curatorial Theory and Practice: Be the Curator, under the instruction of Deborah Ultan Boudewyns. Students learned about the role of curators who have worked in traditional and non-traditional, institutional, and alternative exhibition spaces.

Throughout the course, the students reflected on their own ideas and intentions as curators while considering different approaches to exhibiting, outcomes, and expectations. Guest speakers from museum directors to art installers, fine arts handlers, and curators joined the class to share their experiences and tricks of the trade. Theoretical discussion gave way to the practice of curating, and each student organized their own exhibitions. They explored all aspects of the curatorial process including selecting, placing and installing exhibit materials, and writing about their exhibits.

Art @ Bio-Med

The long awaited exhibiting art program (Art @ Bio-Med) displaying rotating art exhibits on the second floor will launch with The Heart, an exhibit created by students from Deborah Boudewyns’ class Curatorial Theory and Practice: Be the Curator.

The exhibition is sponsored by the University Libraries and co-sponsored by the Department of Art.
